Affordable Marketing Guide

So you’ve opened up your own business? First things first- congratulations are in order! Opening up a business is a huge milestone, and we couldn’t be happier for you. The next step in your business journey is to begin spreading the word about what it is your business does.

Unfortunately, this is often the most challenging step on the path to successful entrepreneurship. Since you are a new business just starting out, you likely don’t have the seemingly unlimited marketing budget huge companies have these days. But that is okay! With some know-how, you can begin to promote your business and build an audience. Of course, this process isn’t instantaneous, so you’ve got to be willing to stick with it. Ready to go? Great. Here are some tips on how you can start to market your business online.

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is by far our favorite marketing strategy that doesn’t cost anything except the time that we invest and the software we use. We are able to get leads each month for our business as well as for our clients by simply optimizing their websites for search.

For example, recently, we designed a new website for Dr. Miller, the developer of Dr. Miller’s Holy Tea.  We made sure that his website is easy to navigate, fast loading, and has keywords related to his products (Holy Tea, Youthin diet, and other related keywords.) Then we helped increase links to his website by ensuring he’s listed in popular online directories.

2. Social Media

Social media is useful for creating a trail of crumbs that can be used to lead potential customers to your website. Different industries perform better on different social media platforms, so you should try and pick just one or two to work with when starting out. Don’t try to appeal to everyone because you will dilute the content for your primary demographic. The internet is large enough now that you can build a dedicated audience in any industry.

Focus on creating high-quality, engaging content targeted at your ideal customer, and it’ll pay off with time. With a bit of dedication, you’ll build up a dedicated following. Once you’ve done this, you can monetize social media platforms like Instagram and find great success. Just remember that social media is, by design, often limiting when it comes to what you are allowed to post. You are always at the mercy of their algorithm. Try and direct anybody interested in your brand to your website. From there, that might turn into a sale.

3. Google Business Profile

A well-optimized Google Business Profile page can do wonders for generating leads for your brand and best of all it’s free! Whenever a search query is made, Google pulls up a list of the most relevant brands related to the search. Therefore, getting your brand ranked highly as possible should be a priority. Frequent posting to the “Recent Updates” tab and accumulating positive reviews is an excellent way to start ranking higher.

We have written a few blogs in the past going into further detail. They can be found here:

4. Create Helpful Blog Posts

Blogging is a great way to grow your audience and get them to trust you. Many great blogging strategies have been proven to work. We recommend you use your blog to share information that your ideal customer would be interested in. By providing helpful content, people will begin to trust your brand. Customers are often doubtful of companies, so building trust will take some time. However, once you establish yourself as a trustworthy source, people will begin to return to your website seeking information.

Once you’ve been blogging for a while, your website should begin to rank higher on search results. This will drive even more traffic to your site. Just remember that blogging can be a slow process; it will take some time before the numbers begin to rise. You must be willing to stick with it and improve as time goes on.

If you have the time, writing website content is something that you can do yourself or there are content writing services available as well.

5. Sponsor Local Events & Fundraisers

Making your company a presence by sponsoring local charitable events will go a long way in creating brand awareness. Choose causes that you genuinely believe in that will also appeal to your target audience. It can be a great way to put yourself out there. Many charitable organizations list their sponsors on the websites along with links to sponsors websites. Google considers relevant links as ranking factors so sponsorships can help with your search rankings as well.

6. Have a Unique Brand Identity

This last tip may be the most important of all: Be unique. Each industry has tough competition, and your business’s services must stand out. By creating an experience that isn’t found elsewhere, your customers will be eager to return. Your unique thing, whatever it may be, needs to feel authentic and stem from a place of passion. Roe Digital stands out because we love to help small businesses, and customer satisfaction is of utmost importance to us. To help achieve this, we design three home page concepts for each of our websites. We then allow our clients to pick and choose elements from each that they like and implement those changes into the finalized site. The three concepts idea is unique and adds to our overall brand identity.

So when fine-tuning your business idea, try to add your personal spin on your industry. Word will spread, and soon people will come to your business looking for that unique experience.

7. Networking

Networking is a fantastic way to learn new information, create opportunities for potential leads, and meet people. There are ways to network both online and face-to-face. All you have to do is join some Facebook groups related to your industry. You will gain access to plenty of like-minded individuals trying to help each other out and grow. It’s crucial that you build relationships with these people, as it one day might lead to some great opportunities. Networking is highly beneficial in the early stages of entrepreneurship. You should use all of the information at your disposal to improve your business and create potential leads.
