I’ve been in the web design and search engine optimization industry for over 25 years, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, the digital world never stops evolving.

Since we have several clients on our SEO plans, I’m always looking for tools to enhance our SEO strategies. We’ve been experimenting with ChatGPT and ChatGPT Plugins for SEO, and I want to share our recent experiences with SEO.app and other plugins.

ChatGPT, a brainchild of OpenAI, is a sophisticated language model capable of generating text that mirrors human writing. Its versatility spans many applications, from crafting emails to scripting code. However, its potential truly shines when applied to SEO strategy, especially when combined with its plugins.

ChatGPT Plugins were initially introduced in March of 2023 with only 11 plugins. As of the writing of this article, there are now over 650 ChatGPT Plugins in the plugin store and at least 10 in the SEO category.

ChatGPT SEO Plugins

ChatGPT can be employed to generate content that is SEO-friendly. It can author blog posts, product descriptions, and other forms of content optimized for search engines. The real magic unfolds when ChatGPT is paired with its plugins.

Following is a list of SEO Plugins that are currently available in the ChatGPT Plugin store:

SEO.app

SEO.app is designed to assist you with local SEO content. It uses patented semantic content optimization technology to increase your chances of ranking locally in Google. It offers features like SEO article writing, localized content creation, and content rewriting.

An example prompt using SEO.app would be “Write an SEO article for Roe Digital about SEO services, optimize it for Jackson, Tennessee, located between Memphis and Nashville. Mention the local neighborhood and how the business has served the community for over 25 years”.

SEO Assistant Plugin

The SEO Assistant plugin is engineered to assist in crafting SEO-friendly content. It can generate search engine keyword information, offering a list of keyword suggestions based on a phrase or sentence entered by the user. This proves incredibly beneficial for content creators and digital marketers aiming to optimize their content for search engines.

SEO Score AI Plugin

The SEO Score AI Plugin is a valuable asset for digital marketers. It can analyze SEO and evaluate content for a given URL and keyword. This can offer valuable insights into how well a website is optimized for a particular keyword, and how it stacks up against competitors.

But it’s not just about SEO analysis and optimization. ChatGPT plugins can also play a significant role in content creation. For example, the diagr.am plugin can generate charts, graphs, and other data visualizations for your audience, while the Image Editor plugin allows you to make simple image edits. These tools can enhance your content, making it more engaging and valuable to your audience.

Here are some prompts you can use with ChatGPT for SEO purposes:

1. Keyword Research

Keyword research is the process of finding and analyzing search terms that people enter into search engines with the goal of using that data for a specific purpose, often for search engine optimization (SEO) or general marketing.

Example Prompt: “Generate a list of long-tail keywords related to ‘herbal teas’.”

2. Content Ideas Generation

Coming up with fresh and relevant content ideas is crucial for SEO. It helps in attracting and retaining your audience, and it’s also a key factor in ranking well in search engines.

Example Prompt: “Provide ten blog post ideas for the keyword ‘Blue Oval City’.”

3. Meta Descriptions Creation

A meta description is a snippet of up to about 155 characters – a tag in HTML – which summarizes a page’s content. It’s the description that shows up under the URL in an organic search result.

Example Prompt: “Write a compelling meta description for a blog post about ‘beginner’s guide to SEO’.”

4. SEO Titles Generation

The title tag is the first thing that users see in the search engine results, so it needs to be compelling and relevant to the content of the page.

Example Prompt: “Suggest 10 SEO-optimized titles for an article about ‘best mattress stores in Jackson TN’.”

5. SEO Content Creation

Creating SEO content involves writing content that helps your web pages to rank high in the search engines. It includes techniques to improve your chances of ranking well.

Example Prompt: “Draft an introductory paragraph for a blog post about ‘the benefits of local SEO‘, optimized for SEO.”

6. Alt Text for Images

Alt text (alternative text) is used within the HTML of a website to describe an image, so that search engine crawlers can understand what the image is about.

Example Prompt: “Write descriptive alt text for an image showing ‘website design for IV Hydration Clinic‘.”

7. SEO Analysis

SEO analysis involves evaluating a website, tracking the performance of SEO strategies, and identifying areas for improvement.

Example Prompt: “Analyze the SEO effectiveness of a blog post about ‘ANS Testing Equipment.'”

8. Link Building Outreach

Link building is the process of acquiring links from other websites to your own. Search ranking priority is usually given to sites with higher authority links in search results.

Example Prompt: “Compose an email to a blogger, asking them to consider linking to our guide on ‘how to build a website for a dog breeder’.” Once you have a template email, you can use a service for link outreach such as Semrush.

The ChatGPT Plugin store has a Linkhouse plugin that will create an offer to sell you links once you input your domain name, budget, and language. Buying links is against Google’s policy, so I don’t recommend it.

9. SEO Recommendations

Providing SEO recommendations involves suggesting changes that can help a website improve its search engine rankings.

Example Prompt: “Provide SEO recommendations for a website selling Dr. Miller’s Teas.”

10. Local SEO

Local SEO is a strategic process emphasizing the optimization efforts of local businesses ranking in local search results and Google Maps.

Example Prompt: “Suggest ways to improve local SEO for an ‘RV Park near Stanton TN’.”

How to Install ChatGPT SEO Plugins

To install ChatGPT SEO plugins, first sign up for the ChatGPT Plus Subscription Plan at $20 per month. Next, navigate to ‘Settings’, select ‘Beta Features’, then click on ‘Plugins’. Choose your desired version, go to the Plugin Store, find the SEO plugin you want, and click ‘Install’.
